5-1

The match began with a lively atmosphere, as the travelling Hawks fans created a great atmosphere behind the Sholing goal, though the action on the pitch started slowly.

Shortly before the 10-minute mark the Hawks had their first real opportunity when Ryan Seager took the ball down and controlled it well to lay it off the Harvey Bradbury. He attempted to lob the keeper, but the ball floated just over the bar.

A good passage of play followed a free kick for Havant. The ball found McNerney who headed it back across goal, but the resulting volley from Wilson went well over the bar.

Midway through the first half the hosts opened the scoring. The ball came in from a corner and Targett rose to head the ball past Dudzinski, giving the home side a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks looked to respond immediately with a cross from Paul finding Bradbury, but the Sholing goalkeeper easily gathered his looping header.

HALF TIME: SHOLING FC 1-0 HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE

Around 10 minutes into the second half Sholing had almost two identical chances to double their lead. Both times the ball came across the box only needing a tap in but both times the shot went out wide for a goal kick. A lucky escape for the Hawks.

On the hour mark, Sholing were awarded a penalty after a foul in the box. Gunson sent Dudzinski the wrong way to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

The Hawks responded quickly as Bradbury showed great strength on the edge of the box to set up a shot for a teammate, which was saved low by the Sholing keeper. However, Bradbury followed up to score from the rebound, halving the deficit to 2-1.

Sholing hit back less than a minute after the Hawks got one back. Gunson got in behind the Hawks’ defence and fired into the roof of the net at the near post, making it 3-1 and restoring the hosts two goal lead.

Late in the game, Sholing made it 4-1 from another corner, and in added time, they added a fifth goal. The ball was played across the box for an easy tap-in, sealing a big victory for the home team and a disappointing result for the Hawks. Next up for Havant and Waterlooville is an away fixture against Frome Town in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
