The game began with Bournemouth taking control early on, putting the Hawks on the back foot. In the 6th minute, Remy Rees-Dottin got through the Hawks’ defence and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Dudzinski to put the visitors in the lead.

Shortly after, Bournemouth doubled their lead as Johnny Stuttle met a cross from the right and stooped down to head the ball through Dudzinski’s legs to make it 2-0.

The visitors showed no signs of slowing down and soon added a third, on what was looking like a long night for the Hawks. Kian Tydeman capitalised on some Bournemouth pressure forcing an error from the Hawks’ defence before firing into the net.

The Hawks managed to give themselves a lifeline before half time when Reuben Swann’s shot deflected off a defender, wrong-footing the Bournemouth keeper to bring the score to 3-1.

As the end of the half approached, the Hawks showed more attacking intent. Hinting at what was to come in the second half.

HALF TIME: HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE 1-3 AFC BOURNEMOUTH

Around 15 minutes after the break, the Bournemouth keeper lost the ball on the edge of the area falling to Keane Anderson who attempted to lob the ball into the net. The ball was cleared off the line but found its way to Callum Kealy, who smashed the ball into the back of the net. The game was now well and truly back on.

Just a few minutes later, the Hawks won themselves a corner that Maloney delivered to the back post. The Bournemouth keeper failed to deal with the cross, and the ball fell to Brendan Wilson, who calmly slotted it home to equalise, making it 3-3. The Bournemouth keepers’ protests towards the referee for allowing the goal to stand resulted in him being shown a red card. This left the visitors down to 10 men and shifted the game’s momentum entirely.

The Hawks seized the opportunity to go on and win the game as they pressed forward. A swift counter-attack culminated in Lee receiving the ball in the box and placing it into the net, completing the Hawks’ remarkable turnaround to lead the match 4-3.

Late in the game, Maloney won a penalty for the Hawks after he was brought down in the box. He confidently stepped up and converted it to seal a 5-3 victory for the Hawks.

After being 3-0 down, the Hawks produced a spirited comeback, scoring five unanswered goals to claim a famous victory and progress to the next round of the cup. The next game for the Hawks is an away trip to Welling United.
