A strong Hawks side started the tie and it only took 5 minutes to open the scoring. The Hawks’ prolific number 9, Ryan Seager, intercepted a loose pass and found the back of the net. The Hawks had something to show from the early spells of pressure on the Selsey goal and didn’t stop there. The attacks relented as the Hawks strung together some nice passages of play. Seager would double his and the Hawks’ lead halfway through the first period but no further damage could be done as the game went into the break with the Hawks 2 goals to the good.

Half Time: Havant and Waterlooville FC 2-0 Selsey

The Hawks made 10 changes at the interval with a completely new outfield lining up for the second period.

It only took ten minutes for the new outfield to penetrate the Selsey defensive line with Trialist A finding the bottom corner after a well worked move. It was a strong finish to the move as the Hawks picked up where they left off in the first half. As the game ticked on the promise of the young Hawks midfielders shone through with Woolston waltzing through players and Aston sweeping up infront of the back line but the chances being created couldn’t find the back of the net having been denied well by the keeper a few times. Trialist B added his name to the scoresheet rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into an empty net with just under 20 to play. Five minutes later, a corner from Laidlaw found the head of Trialist C who arrowed his effort into the net wrapping up our goals for the evening

The Hawks played with confidence throughout and with minutes in the legs will take the experience into preparations for Saturday’s game on the road against Horndean.
