The Hawks started the match brightly, creating some early opportunities. Just before the 10-minute mark, a promising chance arose when Anderson cleverly threaded the ball into Seager’s path. Seager’s shot on the turn, however, was saved by the Taunton goalkeeper.
A couple of corners came in quick succession for the Hawks, They saw both McNerney and Atangana go close to breaking the deadlock.
The breakthrough came when Kealy delivered a superb ball into Seager. Seager, finding space in the box, controlled the ball and expertly struck it past the keeper. The defender’s attempt to recover and clear off the line was in vain, giving the Hawks a deserved 1-0 lead.
The Hawks should have doubled their advantage in the 35th minute. Kealy raced to the ball ahead of the Taunton goalkeeper, both were unaware of where the ball was. As he lost sight of the ball Kealy had a strike at goal, but the effort hit the crossbar and the score remained 1-0 at the break.
HALF TIME: HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE 1-0 TAUNTON TOWN
With around 20 minutes gone in the second half Ryan Seager doubled both his and the Hawks’ tally for the afternoon. A beautifully weighted pass from Austin found Whittingham in the area, who in turn, picked out Seager. The striker calmly slotted the ball home to make it 2-0 to the Hawks.
The Hawks had big appeals for a penalty waved away by the referee. Whittingham found himself being pulled and tussled in the area, and despite staying on his feet the referee ruled that he had impeded his man. Whittingham was cautioned for his role in the incident.
Austin then unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box, but the Taunton goalkeeper produced a superb save to deny the Hawks from extending their lead further.
The hosts had put themselves in a comfortable position and a great save from Dudzinski late on kept the score at 2-0 at the final whistle. Another 3 points at home for the Hawks as they look forward to an away trip to Chertsey Town next Saturday.
