In the first few minutes, Farnborough tried to impose themselves on the game as an early shot was pushed away by Hawks keeper Ben Dudzinski for a corner. This was quickly followed by another shot at goal from Farnborough’s Reggie Young, again saved by Dudzinski.
It seemed like the early Farnborough pressure had paid off as a cross into the box by Olly Pendlebury was put away past the Hawks goalkeeper, but this time, it was the linesman who came to the rescue and as he flagged for offside. Farnborough relented in their offence but there was still no way through for the visiting side as we passed the half-way stage of the first period
Just before the half-hour mark, the opposition put together a flowing move down Hawks’ left-hand side which resulted in a cross and an easy finish from close range by Mason Bloomfield, giving Farnborough the lead.
In the final minutes of the first half, there were more opportunities for Farnborough but they either resulted in shots straight at the Hawks keeper or sailing over the bar.
HALF TIME: HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE 0-1 FARNBOROUGH
Within two minutes of coming out for the second half, the visitors had doubled their lead with the goal coming from halftime sub, Trialist C.
The Hawks tried to spark a comeback after some good work by Alfy Whittingham down the right, resulting in a cross which was cleared away by the Farnborough defence
With just over 20 minutes remaining in the game Farnborough were awarded a penalty, which was confidently converted by Millar Matthews-Lewis extending their lead to 3-0.
Late in the game with only a couple of minutes remaining, there was a moment of joy for the Hawks as they were awarded a penalty, which Leon Maloney successfully converted.
Despite the late penalty, it was a disappointing result from the Hawks’ perspective as they couldn’t overcome Farnborough’s dominant performance, and the match concluded with a decisive 3-1 victory for the visitors. The Hawks will look to bounce back in their next pre-season friendly at home to AFC Wimbledon this Saturday.
