On a sodden Alwyns Lane turf, the tie got started in a cagey manner with both sides looking to test eachother in the early exchanges but neither team committing too heavily into unlocking the other.

The Curfews had a short spell of probing the Hawks defensive line with striker Jack Mazzone looking to impose himself on the tie, aiming to build on his 17 league goals so far this campaign but Dudzinski and the Hawks prevented that from happening.

It was a fairly open first 30 minutes of the affair but both sides were only really limited to strikes from range. The Hawks started moving through the gears and took control of the tie with the game ticking towards the interval.

Just before the board for additional time went up, Ryan Seager almost fashioned a goal out of nowhere. He won the ball high up the field and after a combination with Kealy, he looked to bend one into the top corner with the effort narrowly wide.

The breakthrough would come for the Hawks just before the interval. A ball from right to left from Keane Anderson found Leon Maloney’s head, he cushioned the ball into the path of Alfy Whittingham who had come inside. Whittingham lost his man and fired into the top corner from the corner of the 6-yard area!

HALF TIME: CHERTSEY TOWN 0-1 HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE

Starting the second half with purpose, the Hawks continued where they left off at the break on the front foot and hunting for more.

Just 7 minutes into the second period, the Hawks were awarded a penalty. A corner found Ryan Seager who fired an effort at goal from close range. He was denied by the hand of Striker Jack Mazzone who was sent off for his troubles. It would be Ryan Seager who had the chance to double the lead from the spot and he made no mistake, sending Smith the wrong way!

Seager would come close to grabbing his second in as many minutes, collecting in the area and getting a strike away. The strike flashed just past the post.

Things would go from bad to worse for The Curfews on the hour mark as they were reduced to 9. The Hawks saw an attack ended  by Jack Smith commanding his area well. He bowled out to Wayne Ridgley who looked to turn away from Keane Anderson who was judged to have fouled his man. Ridgeley, who had stayed on his feet, reacted and the red card was brought out again as he received his marching orders.

With the clock continuing to tick down and the Hawks having well and truly asserted their dominance against the 9-men, chances would continue to roll in the Hawks favour. Seager would bag his 2nd of the afternoon and 20th of the campaign after he swept a Devante Stanley cross goalwards. It was too hot for Jack Smith to hold and the loose ball was spilled. Rolling over the line, Seager had followed in but didn’t need to finish as the ball had already squirmed over the line.

Harvey Bradbury, who was introduced in place of Callum Kealy, would have an excellent opportunity to get himself on the scoresheet. He beat the onrushing Smith to the ball, taking it away from the keeper. He controlled, set himself and sent a curling effort over the retreating Smith and Chertsey defenders but could only strike the post. A let off for the hosts.

Skipper Joe McNerney would have next the chance to extend the Hawks’ advantage, a ball into the area found Bradbury who nodded across to McNerney who had remained high up the field from a corner. He looped his effort over Smith but it was acrobatically cleared off the line by Olorunfemi.

Ryan Seager would be denied his hat-trick from 12-yards by Jack Smith after Leon Maloney won a second Hawks penalty. This time Smith guessed right and prevented Seager taking the match ball.

Substitute Kaya Tshaka would have a pair of chances in quick succession from the left hand side. He was able to shake his defender but was unable to find the target.

As the game ticked into added time, Havant would get their 4th. Harvey Laidlaw delivered from the left and Brendan Willson was on hand to meet the delivery and power a bullet header past Smith!

It was a great way for the Hawks to start a hectic festive schedule with a short turnaround to Boxing Day against Gosport Borough.
