Alfy Whittingham shared his thoughts after putting pen to paper for the Hawks having agreeed a deal to join Havant and Waterlooville
I am delighted to sign, I think it’s probably been a long time coming over the last 5 years of my career. Every time I’ve come back on loan to Havant, I’ve enjoyed my time. I love the fans I love the club, I’ve always felt welcome here. I’ve always felt that I play my best football when I’m feeling confident and happy, at Havant I’ve always had these feelings whenever I’ve been on loan. From the first time I came on loan from Aldershot Town in February 2022 to now, I’ve always enjoyed my football at Havant & Waterlooville. So really coming back is what I wanted to do.
I’m extremely excited about the project that the club is building, it’s upsetting that the club went down last year but if you look at the second half of the season form wise we were pushing right up there. On a personal note from my loan spell, my record was positive having played 9 and scored 2, winning . I’m excited to get back and help the team get back up the leagues and hopefully some promotions to follow.
I think Derek [Pope, The Chairman] has always been ambitious and you can see that from the longevity of his time with the football club spanning multiple decades and his work to try and get the club back up to the levels where it should be. Derek was a big part in me signing. Meeting Shaun North as well, I really like him, I think he’s a good guy. My brother worked with him at Portsmouth so he knows him quite well.
I’m really looking forward to being back and getting stuck in!
